Blastolene Special

Gran Turismo 6 (2013)
speedfreak975 wrote

Yes I know but it says Jay Teno :p

Polyphony only accidentally discovered the Blastolene Special Tank Car when they were snooping around Jay Leno's garage looking for new engine sounds. That's probably why they thought it was Jay Leno's own creation.

Jay Leno owns it, but he didn't build it. In the same way that Ralph Lauren owns a $40 million 1938 Bugatti 57sc Atlantic, it remains a Bugatti, not a Ralph Lauren 57sc Atlantic.

(Jay Leno also owns a blue 57sc Atlantic clone built around a 'regular' 1937 Bugatti 57s chassis. I doubt it even started life as an sc.)

The Blastolene Special was designed by Michael Leeds and built by Randy Grubb. Of all the Randy Grubb creations it's possibly one of the most ordinary vehicles they've built. Take for instance the 1940 Packard Streamliner and Rocket 3 quad bike. Now if THESE were in Gran Turismo Sport . . .

Although my two favourites would be the Blastolene B-702 (GMC 11½ litre V12 & Allison 4-speed auto) with hand blown tail lights and the Deco Tri-pod (Piaggio MP3 scooter)

The Brotherhood of the Blastolene is a 'loose confederation of automotive artists' who support each other through amazing outrageous art-deco projects such as the ones I've mentioned. Blastolene was named after a barbecue sauce Michael Leeds created for a restaurant he used to own.

Although Blastolene cars are very definitely art they're not considered 'art cars'. Not like Chip Foose's Impression or Boyd Coddington's Cadzilla. These are ground-up creations designed and built to stir primal emotions in the very core of every onlooker, not to win trophies at car shows.

Imagine if Polyphony took a serious interest in Blastolene creations. We could be hooning around and feeling the lean at the auxiliary controls on the flying bridge of the Decoliner, or scaring rally spectators with a savage looking Blown Ranger.

Nope, they're beige and boring. The only reason admins are replacing my pictures with yours is that you spammed the hell out of them with your whining and complaining. That's all you're good at. Whine and complain like a spoilt little brat.

I'm guessing mommy and daddy don't say 'no' to you enough.

You have a list of people you hate and love and you don't see how childish that is?

And yes it does blend in. You chose a beige car that matches almost perfectly the beige building in the background. But that's you in a nutshell.

Beige.

Red 500 in front of a blurred, out of focus Yellow FD, grey track and green grass. Can't fail to lose it now.

Not saying admins need to replace the first image with mine, but this is here as a comparison so folks can actually see it.

And yes, it's passing a heavier RX-7 on a corner. More than twice the weight in fact.

1,100 lbs Vs 2,685–2,954 lb

Balanced mid engine Vs Nose heavy front engine

Maintaining speed Vs Slamming anchors

Does a diagram really need to be drawn? Or can people finally understand the principles behind a technical circuit is to make it a level playing field?

If it were a question of 'who has the most horses wins' then there's very little point to racing.

Missed a couple details.

It didn't have a rear spoiler (by the way, that rear spoiler is NOT stock)
Didn't have a front spoiler
Didn't have hood pins,
Obviously did not have Magnum 500 style wheels or lettered radial tires. (it had the "Ford Motor Company" hubcaps on steel wheels, bias-ply tires with a thin white stripe decoration,
Didn't have the "hockey stick" stripe. Only a black lower panel with a "Mach 1" decal.

Oh yeah...and you forgot this movie where the Mustang IS the star...

Ahem.

I was trying to say that amongst the Bond cars was a Colorado red Mach 1. I'm not trying to replicate the Bond car, that's just the colour it came in.

Spoilers and hoods pins are subtle period accessories. I add them because they are particular to this car. I could have removed the decals but then it would look even less stock.

I didn't forget Eleanor, it's just not worth saying "Believe it or not" over. When people think of Gone In Sixty Seconds they think of a Mustang (Even the remake). When people think of Bond they think Aston Martin, Lotus or BMW. They might even think of a yellow 2CV6 gallivanting down the side of a Spanish olive grove. However few look at a Mach 1 and think 'Bond'.
Ford Mustang Mach 1

Gran Turismo 6 (2013)
Colorado red Mach 1.

Believe it or not this is a 'Bond' car. Sean Connery, Diamonds Are Forever. Although in the film they didn't have the black anti-glare patch on the hood.

The Mustang chase was filmed on Las Vegas' famous Fremont Street, which was still open to the public.

One set of stunt coordinators had set up the car driving into an alleyway on two wheels. Another set of stunt coordinators had set up the car driving out of supposedly the same alleyway on two wheels. Sadly it wasn't the same two wheels. Once they had found this out they had tried several ways to remedy this. Flip the film etc . . . none of it worked so eventually they set up another scene shot indoors with a moving 'alleyway' and a Mach 1 mounted on a gimbal which simulated the car switching sides part way down the alley.

Auto Union Type C Streamliner

Gran Turismo 6 (2013)
Interesting thing about the German race cars of the period. Originally their race colours were white, however they soon realised that paint cost money and weighed a significant amount so their cars were made with a polished unpainted metal finish to reduce cost and weight. As it happens it also reduced drag.

Afterwards when Japan were to join the racing scene they adopted the white paint scheme.

Of course all of this fell by the wayside when sponsors wanted their own paint schemes.

You see any dents or scratches on it? The car wasn't wrecking. That was the second time I lifted two wheels on a right turn. The first time was when I had passed the Zonda earlier, this time to stay ahead. I was pushing it to it's limit. By pushing a car to it's limit you know what it and you are capable of.

If I drove slowly enough that all four wheels were on the ground there's a very good chance I wouldn't have won that race. It was like being on a knife-edge on all five laps.

As it happens this shows views with more detail than most people will be privy to. How can that be a bad thing?

Stressful race. Expert Seasonal, Grand Valley race cars. This is really not the car for it but it is possible to win . . . just don't ever lose any speed. Carry as much as you possibly can. Make one mistake and they'll have you. A very average if forgiving car.

You know that despite not having a Ferrari badge on it, and old Enzo being rather adamant that no Ferrari should have less than 8 cylinders, it's still built by Ferrari, in the Ferrari factory, with the Ferrari staff. It is still every bit as much a Ferrari as the new DS3 is a Citroën.

Conclusively, the DVLA consider them Ferraris. There is nothing wrong with calling it a Ferrari Dino 246 GT.

Pretty decent in the intermediate seasonals.

Pretty straight foward tune but watch the initial torque in this one though. Not too high and going over crests try not to make it too light on her rear axle.
